The term woodworm is used as a general description of several species of wood boring insects. The most usual being the Common Furniture Beetle.

A technical survey would be carried out by 1st Choice Insulations Ltd to determine the extent of the problem of insect damage to timbers.
An infestation starts with the adult beetle laying eggs in the crevices of the timber. These hatch and the resulting larvae tunnel into the timber and following pupation, the adult beetles emerge through tiny circular flight holes to continue the cycle and spreading the infestation.

The first visual indication will be the appearance of these flight holes accompanied by bore dust.
If woodworm is evident in the loft, all old insulation would be removed, an insecticide spray used to penetrate the timber and new insulation replaced to current Building Regulations. This would prevent both larvae from pupating and young larvae from getting established.

This is a highly effective solution and the treatment is covered by a 30 year guarantee.
